Publishing terms I hate (seriously)

Categories: Business, Publishing, Writing

Pre-published.
How about just not yet published. Or aspiring. Heck, or beginner.

Editor hat/writer hat
This one just irks me. I think too literally and picture people literally trading hats to trigger different things. Generally, I’m not a fan of dividing people up like that. Labels should be something people use to meet others on common ground, not something used to define us and exclude people not-us. See? The whole image is loaded for me.

Story of your heart
It encourages too much of an emotional bond to the story, and further more to a single story. Yes, of course, write what calls to you. But no successful writer has a story of the heart. Careers are built not by writing the story of your heart or soul, but by putting your heart and soul into the story, which would be nothing but an idea, maybe a few words, without the writer’s passion.

4theLuv/Exposure
Why does “luv”ing you mean you get everything and I get nothing? What kind of a relationship demand all of one side’s time, effort, dignity and pride, with nothing in return, because it’s very likely I don’t wish to enter that kind of relationship with you. If I want exposure I’ll post my stories on my web page, where I can keep track of traffic, I can delete it or change it any time I want and I can use a free sample to sell something else. I write for the “Luv”. I publish for quite different reasons.
