More on Black Ink Horror XXX

ETA: I plan to do a blog contest and give away a copy of this and of Cthulhu Sex issue #16, which features my first ever appearance as a fiction author. So keep checking back for more information.

From Tim Manning and *Note* some of the illustrations can be seen on the Black Ink Horror Forum

How is BIH XXX different than previous issues of Black Ink Horror.

  • For starters, this one will be in color. To date, all of our publications have been limited to a dash of color on the cover. This issue will have color artwork throughout. I figured that, after five straight issues of black and white, it would be neat to experiment with a color publication
  • All of the stories in this issue contain sex and gore. In a regular issue of BIH, I usually try to sprinkle in some ‘hardcore” horror here and there. In XXX, all of the stories are either erotic or hardcore horror. Now, if you’re one who is easily offended or doesn’t particularly like a lot of sex and gore in your horror fiction (and I can completely understand that) this issue may not be for you.
  • This issue contains only five stories and will be saddle stitched just like the elusive BIH #0.
  • Instead of two illustrations, each story will have three–one half page illo to begin the piece, and two full-pagers in with the rest of the story.
  • This issue will be VERY limited. Although I’m still discussing the exact numbers with the printer, we’re looking at fewer than 100 copies. Considering that we pre-sold 95 copies of BIH #4 in two days, I’m guessing that there might not be enough to go around. There may be limitations on how many copies people can buy.
  • If all goes well, the books will either be shrink-wrapped or bagged with a comic backboard.

Why don’t I remember there being a submission period for XXX?

Well, because there wasn’t one. While accepting stories for BIH, I found that I had accepted more than my normal share of tales involving sex . At that point, the gears in my head began spinning and I thought, “why not do a sex-themed issue?” So, I did. If XXX is a success. I will definitely open it up to submissions next year.

Why didn’t I get a call to illustrate for this one?

We currently carry a staff of 18 artists–there are, however, only 5 stories in this issue. The unfortunate fact is some people were going to get left out. Those who were selected had either already displayed a propensity for drawing the nasty stuff, or had been color artists who wanted to participate in an issue of BIH and hadn’t been able to in the past. Perhaps, if and when we do this again, I’ll try to find a way to get more involved.

Will this be a yearly event?

Quite possibly. If this issue sells well and, more importantly, if feedback is good, we may give it another shot.

I have every issue of Black Ink Horror, and I’m worried about missing this one.

Believe me, we’re well aware that we have readers who have purchased every issue we’ve released. We are currently compiling a lits of them and are devising a plan to make sure that they get a chance to keep their collections complete. If you’re one of those people and would like to shoot me an email or PM, please feel free. We’ll make sure that you’re on that list.

I think this is one of the illustrations for my story, only in the print copy there are no polka dot panties.
