On 2023 and 2024

It’s year end wrap up time! I mean, not that I have a huge number of things to wrap up.

Writing wise I have A LOT of irons in the fire right now but few of them have come out yet. I can tell you there will be way more showing up next year.

On the day job front I completed 11 hours of CE and sold an article to a professional field magazine. Also added phlebotomy, IT support, and radiography to my resume.

On the writing front I finished 3 books, completed 5 freelance articles, and did covers for two releases. Most of these are sold already. I also ran games professionally at Gencon for the third year.

As for what actually came out in 2023 I only have these:

I also read 31 books this year, after several years of not reading over 20.

But now onto the fun stuff. Let’s talk about what I loved in 2023, what I want more of in 2024 and what needs to die.

-Booktok: I need more. And more variety. I need to see people excited about books!

-Smut: Yup. Give me more. More smut, more romantasy, more cozy fantasy, and more alien planets, genre defying tales, and alternative story telling methods. *winks at Webtoons*

-Smut set in “Academies”: Die. Really. Along with other toxic romance tropes like dubcon and noncon.

-AI writing: Die. It’s not going to. It’s going to get worse, especially now that an AI story has won a lit prize. The idea that publishing is a fast way to earn cash also needs to die, because it’s not.

By the way, if you want to see more of my this year you can throw a few bucks at this Kickstarter project I’m involved with, The Broken Controller. The Broken Controller is a quarterly zine dedicated to retro video games and the awesome people that love them!

And if you’re broke, you’re in luck, because I have a few books up for free on Wattpad. I am considering releasing another just for fun book on Wattpad this year.
