The video game with the most fully realized story that I’ve liked is the Legacy of Kain series. It started out as a little PSOne RPG with a neat story and multiple endings, then expanded out to the Blood Omen and Soul Reaver stories. You have powerful vampires becoming monstrous gods and some wicked awesome graphics and game play. Playing (which again, let me point out I rarely finish games) or watching others play it’s a great series.

RPGs, those are tougher. There’s always a more chaotic feel to RPGs as good GMs (and I’ve been lucky to have a few of those) and bits of the story which don’t center around you. Even when you poach an idea from another story, movie or whatever, it evolves in a completely different way that a focused single “player” tale. but my favorite, I think, has been a test game of an RPG I wrote based off Anne Bishop’s Blood world that contained completely unique characters and cities. It was a lot of fun, even if it was essentially fan fiction (that never really got written down), and I think it primed me for wanting to write my own, unique RPG.

I suppose I could specify more on video games to, I like games with full stories and puzzles. Also I have a weakness for “kill things and get stuff” games.

Video games: Granny Weatherwax (well and most of the other characters in the two Discworld games). I tried but I just could not find a good clip to illustrate what I love about Granny Weatherwax. Mostly it’s that the video game versions is exactly as the book version, which is to say clever, dangerous and kick-ass.

RPGs: I am having such a brain fart. Also from Jason’s Marvel game we worked for a guy who was a liaison for an angel. Herman! I knew I’d remember his name. But the game ran so long that this whole family thing developed between us and Herman until in season two (LOL, you know what I mean) he vanished and we were all trying to fill his role. But he was a sweet character who always put up with our stupid moments and was about universally loved. (think a male Mrs. Weasley).

RPGs: In Jason’s last Marvel game he has a character named the General that we just could not beat. A Magneto type (not the powers, just his role in the story) there was also the fact that he wasn’t exactly wrong, he was just brutal and willing to kill and we weren’t. Also he had this real romance thing going on with a Muslim woman he had rescued from an abusive husband and the dynamic between them, his loyalty to her and between us and him was a fantastic thing, slow built in a way you don’t get a lot in games.
